Sloane and Laurelle Maddox had perfectly ordinary childhoods with perfectly normal parents. Their parents preached being kind and generous above all else. And Sloane and Laurelle were kind, really, especially to anyone besides each other. When it came to the sisters, everything was a competition. Finishing breakfast first. Getting the best spot in the car. Grades, obviously. Even getting the better date to the school dance. It was for the best, then, that they pursued different college careers. While Laurelle sought work in the financial sector, Sloane was interested in international crime and terrorism. Well, counter-terrorism. Instilled with a strong moral code from her parents, Sloane was interested in fighting on the side of the good. But if she was going to do something, she was all in - a regular beat cop wouldn't cut it. Even without her sister beside her, Sloane was willing to work diligently to be succeed. Tapped to train as an field agent for the Canadian spy service, Sloane was surprised when she was approached by TEA to work with their agency. To her practical mind, it seemed like something out of a science fiction novel. Once convinced of their legitimacy, she felt like the opportunity couldn't be missed. After her internship, Sloane was, as is standard practice, partnered with a more experienced Wrangler. They were meant to complement each other - while Sloane had the rulebook memorised, Catherine was willing to be a little more flexible to get things done. Unfortunately, a couple years into their partnership, their battle of wills had a deadly end. Catherine took a risk on a mission, and Sloane kept to protocol. Even though she did nothing wrong, Sloane blames herself for Catherine's death. With her next partner, she promised herself she would try to work together and be a little more flexible. The promise has been challenging to keep.
